Alva Lee Byrd Thomas, 82 of Lillington died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at her home.

Alva Lee was born March 12, 1933 in Harnett Co. to the late Alvie Lee and Hassie Elizabeth Brown Byrd. Alva Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Rex Watson Thomas; a son, Keith Rex Thomas; a sister, Janie Mason Seagroves; a brother, Robert "Reynolds" Mason; and a niece, Allison Upchurch Smith.

Alva Lee was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church and a member of the Happy Travelers. She retired from Coty. Alva Lee liked to cook and loved her flowers.

A funeral will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Antioch Baptist Church, Mamers with Rev. Patrick Broaddus and Rev. Robbie O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday after the burial in the sanctuary of the church and other times at the home.

Alva Lee is survived by a son, Reggie Lee Thomas and wife Barbara of Hickory; a daughter, Lori Chambers and husband Tim of Pfafftown; a daughter in law, Sharon Thomas of Lillington; 3 sisters, Libby Mason of Mamers, Faye Upchurch and husband Durward of Lillington and Kay Upchurch and husband Bennie of Broadway; 4 grandchildren, Shannon T. Howell, Rex Matthew Thomas, Kelsey and David Chambers; 2 great grandchildren, Madilyn Claire and Emilee Grace Howell; and a very special friend, WS Griffin.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Antioch Baptist Men, 6604 Old US 421, Lillington NC 27546, to help with the widowed and elderly in the church and community.
