Allison Modlin Jones, 84, of Buies Creek, NC, died Sunday, January 9, 2011. She was born July 2, 1926, in Warren County, NC, to the late Raymond Modlin and Maywood Johnson Modlin. Allison attended Louisburg College and graduated from East Carolina. She was a teacher and antique clock dealer.

Allison was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek. She designed and supervised landscaping at the church and was active in Sunday school, WMU, and senior ministries. Allison was an avid reader and joined and founded numerous book clubs. She was also a member of garden clubs and Eastern Star, a Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, and an active booster of Campbell University athletics, particularly women's basketball. She participated in the restoration of Campbell House in Buies Creek. Allison also supported the work of the American Cancer Society and the Heart Fund.

Allison was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Norwood E. Jones, three brothers, John, Carlton, and Wayland, and three sisters, Gladys Lassiter, Maywood Scarborough, and Ruby Lee Gardner.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek. Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington, and following the Friday service in the fellowship hall at Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter Janice Bodenhamer and husband Bud of Stella, NC; son Earl Jones and wife Diane of Coats, NC; daughter Allison Holden and husband Tom of Rossville, IN; and son Ray Jones of Winston-Salem, NC; four grandchildren, Ashley Bodenhamer, Casey Bodenhamer, Kirk Holden, and Eli Holden; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Keegan; brother Raymond Modlin of Herlong, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Memorial Baptist Church Growth Endowment, P. O. Box 485, Buies Creek, NC 27506, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or other charities.
