Mr. William Leon Fowler, 77, of Erwin passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019 at his home. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late James Franklin Fowler and Ida Bass Fowler. Leon retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company with over 25 years of service. He served as a volunteer auxiliary police officer and dispatcher with the Town of Erwin Police Department for 10 years and served as a volunteer with Erwin Fire and Rescue for 30 years. He owned and operated Carolina Truck Inc. in Erwin for 10 years.
Leon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Tonda Best Fowler of the home; son, William Lee Fowler of Buies Creek; daughter, Dawn Fowler Barnes and husband Roger Glenn Barnes of Eastover; 2 grandchildren, Christopher Greg Black and Rachel Renea Barnes; 2 great-grandchildren, Gage Dalton Black and Tatum Nicole Black; brother, James Curtis Fowler and wife Carolyn of Erwin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday February 21, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Erwin with Rev. Thomas Greene officiating. A graveside service will follow at Erwin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the home.
