Roy Barbour Obituary

Mr. Roy Leon Barbour, 69, of Smithfield, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Roy was born in Johnston County to the late Otto and Sarah Lassiter Barbour.  He was a graduate of Smithfield High School and Johnston Technical Institute.  He was a proud Army veteran of the Vietnam War, working as a Sentry Dog Handler with 18th Military Police Brigade in Da Nang, Vietnam.  Following the military, Roy worked primarily in shipping and receiving and as a security guard.

He loved to make a deal, buying items to refurbish and sell.  He never met a stranger and would talk to anyone.  He was an encyclopedia of TV and country music trivia and he loved old TV shows.  His favorites were Andy Griffith Show, The Three Stooges, Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Professional Wrestling. Roy loved Christmas, as he loved to give presents to everyone.  Above all, he truly loved his family and his animals.

A memorial service will be held Monday, August 5, 2019, at 2pm in Westfield Baptist Church in Dunn with Rev. Rob James presiding.   The burial will follow at Pisgah Baptist Church in Smithfield with military honors.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie Hatcher Barbour; and brother-in-law, Jerry Hatcher.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Barbour-Moore and husband Steven Moore of Benson; brother, Gerald Barbour and wife, Barbara Barbour of Clayton; brother-in-law, Len Hatcher and wife, Ann Hatcher of Clayton; sister-in-law, Lois Hatcher  of Zebulon; his nieces and nephews, Bryant, Ariella, Jacob, and Raychel, Katie and Matt, Michael and Jey, Josh and Mikayla, and Emily; and his canine companion, Dusty.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 pm at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Lillington and other times at 7593 NC Hwy 210, Smithfield NC 27577.
