Mr. Joseph L. Horton, 73, of Lillington, passed away on March 5, 2019.
Joe was born February 9, 1946 in Wake County to the late Talmadge and Elsie Horton but was raised in Lillington. He had a lifelong love of family and his local community. He was a graduate of Lillington High School, Class of 1964. He received his Associate’s Degree in Engineering and subsequently worked in telecommunications for the next 35 years.
His career saw him work for telephone companies and telecommunication businesses, for which he traveled extensively; including a stint in Tully, Greenland. He received numerous sales awards and was nationally recognized for his depth of understanding of industry equipment. Following his successful career he was most happy to return to Harnett County for his retirement years.
Joe had several loves throughout his life: fishing, gardening, disc jockeying as the “Big Bopper”, and hosting events with his "SueBaby" to include his family, high school class, oyster roasts and any excuse to get loved ones together.
Always involved in his local churches, Joe had served as a Deacon, Treasurer, Secretary, Sunday School teacher and when called upon, he enjoyed sharing a sermon.
Joe loved to fly. He had his private pilot’s license and directed a program which built a single engine air plane with local Boy Scouts.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 2 pm at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Parsons presiding. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Adcock Horton; two daughters, four grandchildren, Joette Seniff and husband Todd Seniff and their sons, Jackson and Blanchard Seniff all of Guilford, CT; Karla Bridges and her daughters Katie Sue and Emma Bridges; and a brother, Tommy Horton of Lillington.
