Jerry W. Byrd, Jr.

Mr. Jerry Wayne Byrd, Jr., 50, of Dunn passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 at his home. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Jerry Wayne Byrd, Sr. and Frances Wilkins Byrd. Jerry worked as a butcher for many years. He grew up drag racing with his father and uncle at the Dunn-Benson Dragstrip. Jerry continued his love for drag racing alongside his brothers, Steve and Dariel; son, Keegan and nephew, Alan. He trained K9’s for obedience and personal protection. Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Vicki Ann Byrd; grandparents, Norman and Leonie Wilkins and brother, Dariel Higgins.

Jerry is survived by his wife Tina Wilson of Dunn; children, Keegan Wilson and wife Crystal of Bunnlevel; Kristin Wilson of Dunn and Kylan Wilson of Greenville; step-children, Sharona Stokes and husband Terrence of Angier and Mistianne “Dani” Jacobs of Angier; grandchildren, Kaden Wilson and Alana Stokes; sister, Knioka “Okie” Higgins of Dunn and brother, Steven Byrd and wife Tammy of Dunn; 4 nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, December 7, 2018 at Angier Fellowship Church with Rev. Chris Hall officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
