Hugh Jernigan

Mr. Nathan Hugh Jernigan, 82, of Lillington passed away Wednesday September 18, 2019 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Molton Millard Jernigan and Mary Ellen Barefoot Jernigan. Hugh was a veteran of the US Army and served in Korea. He was a farmer and also co-owned J&W Supermarket in Lillington. He worked and retired from the NC Prison System in Lillington. Hugh was an active member of Lillington Baptist Church for over 50 years serving in many capacities. He also was a member of the Neills Creek Ruritan Club and the Little River Cruisers Car Club. Hugh was preceded in death by 2 brothers, J. Truett Jernigan, Ralph M. Jernigan; sister, Lois E. Douglas and husband Donald; son-in-law, Ricky Mulcahy.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 60 years, Zada Faye Wood Jernigan of the home; daughter, Elaine Martin and husband Willis Martin, Jr. of Lillington; son, Timothy H. Jernigan and wife Kathey B. Jernigan of Lillington; son, Carl L. Jernigan and wife Mellissa Rae Jernigan of Lillington; daughter, Zada Jernigan Mulcahy of Dunn; 7 grandchildren, Jeffrey Denning, Becky S. Eubanks and husband Chester, Justin Mulcahy and wife Lindsey, Brian Mulcahy, Johnathan Jernigan, Emily Jernigan, Truett Jernigan; 4 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Denning, Bruce Eubanks and Tristen Mulcahy; brother, Millard Jernigan and wife Beverly; 2 sisters-in-law, Carlotta Jernigan and Linda Jernigan.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday September 20, 2019 at Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Selman and Rev. Jeff Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday in the church fellowship hall from 9:00-10:45 AM and other times at the home.
