Gary Wayne Gilbert

Gary Wayne Gilbert of Fuquay-Varina was born on September 4, 1970, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC.  He grew up in the Christian Light area of Harnett County and attended Harnett Central High school where he played baseball and football and graduated in 1988.  He married Tracy Ryals on August 29, 1992, and had a son born to them In March 1998.  Gary was a jack of all trades, having driven Semi trucks across the country, crane operation, and welding.  He volunteered with the Northwest Harnett Fire Department for many years.  He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed going to the beach and boating with his family. No matter what was going on, Gary was a light in the world and was always able to keep a smile on everyone’s face, even in the darkest of times. One of his greatest joys was coaching a local baseball team and watching his son play baseball and wrestle. 

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Tracy Laine (Ryals) Gilbert, his son, Cody Wayne Gilbert, his mother, Elizabeth Ann (Holt) Gilbert, his brother, Scott Gilbert and preceeded in death by his father Early Wayne Gilbert. 

A memorial service will be held at the Baptist Grove Church at 7 pm on Thursday, September 27, 2018.  Gathering with the family will follow the service at the church fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home in Gary’s name.
