Mr. Elmer Wayne Pace, 76, of Barbeque Township, beloved father, grandfather and brother, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019, at Brookdale Senior Living Center, Arvada, Colorado. The son of the late W.M. and Johnsie B. Pace, was born in Harnett County, August 1942. Wayne grew up on the family farm in Harnett County. He graduated from Benhaven High School, worked and retired from being a butcher for A&P and Food Lion grocery chains. Also, he maintained an active role in the family tobacco farm. After retiring, Wayne went to work part-time as a Security Guard at the Carolina Lakes Residential Community. Beyond work, Wayne loved hunting and fishing, his joy was being outdoors whenever possible. Wayne lived his entire life in North Carolina until October 2017, after having health issues, he decided to live with his son and family in Colorado.
Wayne is survived by his son, Christopher Pace and wife Helen of Arvada, Colorado; grandson, Zachary Pace of Charleston, South Carolina; brother, Harold and wife Betty of Barbeque Township; sister, Janice Pace of Barbeque Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Barbeque Presbyterian Church in Harnett County with Rev. David Sherrod officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 10:00 am – 10:45 am and other times at the family home. There will be a small reception afterwards in the recreation center serving food and drinks, all are invited to attend.
