Obituary

Major Pat B. Harmon, Retired, USAF, 81, of Buies Creek passed away Monday, December 4, 2017 at his home. He was born in Harnett County and was preceded in death by his father, Carlyle and his mother “Pat” Harmon. Pat grew up on the family farm and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the Cape Fear River.

He attended East Carolina University and was actively involved in the ROTC program. Upon graduation, Pat was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served his country for twenty years. During that time, he and his wife, Joyce, were stationed at bases across the United States and the world where they embraced new cultures and made lifelong friends.

After he retired from the Air Force, Pat worked at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC for 18 years as the Assistant Director of the Physical Plant and was an avid supporter of the university and its athletic programs. Pat was an active member of Buies Creek First Baptist Church, where he attended with his wife and daughters, Patricia and Martha. He loved spending time with his family at football games, church activities and Sunday lunches. Throughout his life, Pat was passionate about American history and enjoyed researching his family genealogy.

Pat is survived by his wife Joyce Stone Harmon, his daughters Patricia Harmon-Lewis and Martha Harmon and his son-in-law Gene Lewis.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Buies Creek First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Sowers, Rev. Dr. Michael Simmons and Rev. Dr. John Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Buies Creek Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall Thursday from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM and other times at the home.
